I've painted up some Dropzone Commander that I bought over at Fanboy3 in Manchester last weekend.
Anyone remember the video game Homeworld? Here's the starting game cutscene. It's so beautiful :')
This is one of the greatest intros to any video game, ever.
So that's how I've decided to paint my Dropzone Commander vehicles. I didn't really know what faction to go for, in terms of their play style, so I just went for the best looking one and the PHR are just amazing!
They're only 10mm in scale which makes it even more insane considering how much detail you get. I found myself originally considering the UCM, I mean they're the table top version of Halo, practically until I saw this...
The Hades Super Heavy Walker
I literally just threw my money at the cashier crying with excitement. That model is the reason I started painting, it's a thing of beauty.
I picked up a couple of Odin Walkers, added the Taiidan inspired paint scheme and here they are :D
I can't believe the detail on these, like I said, the scale is 10mm so each infantry figure is only 1cm tall. Apparently that makes the Hades Super Heavy the largest model in the whole of the Dropzone Commander game.
LOOK AT IT! It's so big :D
I decided, maybe rightly or wrongly, that whenever I get into a frame of mind when I get bored of painting the same thing over and over again, I'm just going to buy a model from a totally different game series and paint that up.
My problem last year was that I bought way too much and spent way too long on one model, like when I first started painting a Tyranid 'gaunt took me hours to paint. One. There are like 20 in a box? That would've taken me YEARS to paint up even 500 points. I bought Necrons last year, that's just silver undercoat, washed and dry brushed. Easy! I got bored and lost the will to live.
This is my progress so far this year with my Bolt Action Japanese force. They're basically painted, they'll look ok from about 48" or so, any closer and you'll notice flaws etc but I'd much rather have a painted army out on a table, that I'm happy with, than it being sat in a boxed and unloved.
Japanese Snipers :D
I played a game of Bolt Action last year and I loved it, it's such a fresh game compared to 40K but I wasn't going to get into it. I love World War 2 history, I love tabletop gaming but the two just didn't do anything for me, like Flames of War just seemed way too boring. I wanted laser beams and giant robots and shit but as soon as I saw there was a brand new Japanese force out, I was SOLD!
I was in Tokyo last summer, so anything Japanese themed I just threw my money at, screaming like a 12yr old girl at a One Direction concert. I also shed a tear as well when I realised I hate painting flesh, let alone asian skin tones. I think I've done ok!
That's all for this weekend :D
